The IRS continues to modernize its taxpayer services by expanding digital tools designed to make tax administration easier and more efficient.
Recent enhancements to the Business Tax Account (BTA), a secure online platform that allows eligible businesses to access tax information, manage payments, and complete certain tax-related tasks in one centralized location, have significantly expanded the platform’s capabilities, making it a more valuable resource for businesses of all sizes.
What Is the IRS Business Tax Account?
The Business Tax Account is an online self-service platform that provides authorized users with secure access to federal tax information and account management tools. The platform is available to a growing number of business entities, including:
- Sole proprietors with an Employee Identification Number (EIN)
- Partnerships
- S corporations
- C corporations
- Tax-exempt organizations
- Government entities
- Indian tribal governments
The BTA serves as a centralized hub where eligible taxpayers can view account information, access tax records, make payments, and interact with the IRS digitally rather than relying solely on paper correspondence or phone support.

New Features and Benefits for Businesses
Businesses using the platform can already perform a variety of functions, including:
- Viewing tax balances and payment history
- Making and scheduling payments online
- Storing multiple bank accounts for payment convenience
- Accessing tax records and transcripts
The IRS has recently introduced several notable enhancements that further improve the platform’s usefulness. These updates include expanded access to digital IRS notices, allowing businesses to view important communications online as they become available.
This enhanced digital access is especially valuable given ongoing challenges affecting traditional mail delivery. The U.S. Postal Service has experienced widely reported delivery delays, processing backlogs, transportation disruptions, weather-related disruptions, and other operational challenges that can slow the delivery of IRS correspondence. Expanded electronic access to notices and account information through the BTA helps businesses receive and review critical IRS communications more quickly, allowing them to take timely action and better manage their tax obligations.
The platform also now allows designated officials to download EIN verification documentation (Notice CP575), which can be used to verify a business’s EIN with other institutions.
In addition, eligible taxpayers can now submit Offer in Compromise payments through the platform, providing a more convenient option for businesses seeking to resolve tax liabilities.
Tax Forms Available Through Business Tax Account
The BTA supports access to information related to numerous business tax forms. Common categories include:

- Form 940
- Form 941
- Form 944
